The Experienced Advocate Ward 8 Needs Right Now!

Electing people whose top priority is serving residents and empowering communities makes our city stronger. As a ‘Home Grown’ Ward 8 resident, I know firsthand the issues facing our ward. I’ve lived all my life with these issues, hopes and dreams, just like you have.

We all want living wage jobs, thriving neighborhood businesses, good schools for our kids, housing we can afford and accessible healthcare. And, after 30 years of working with Congresswoman Norton, Mayor Gray, and at the DC Council, I am the most experienced candidate to deliver results for Ward8.

If you give me the honor to serve as your new Councilmember, I will work tirelessly on your behalf.

In Service,
Sheila

Ending Food Apartheid

Sheila believes that we can have strong children, strong families, and strong communities by working to end food apartheid and increasing access to healthy meals and fresh produce. Sheila belives that we need to make the necessary budgetary investments in small footprint grocery stores, grocery coops, farmers markets and community gardens as well as supporting the expansion of such programs.

Improving Educational Outcomes

Sheila believes that we need to implement innovative methods to tackle chronic absenteeism and truancy, improve literacy rates for all students, and address low math proficiency by funding a comprehensive citywide strategy.

Supporting our Small Businesses

Sheila wants to help Ward 8 businesses gain access to more funding to build capacity and modernize their operations. She will lead the fight to help our small businesses grow in all of our main commercial corridors. Sheila wants to increase the District's funding of Main & Great Streets programs vital to assisting our businesses in thriving.

Fostering Safe Communities

Sheila believes in safe, strong, and sustainable neighborhoods. As a parent, she understands the importance of creating safe environments where our children can learn and grow without fear. Sheila will champion increased funding & training for Safe Passage and Diversion programs. Sheila knows first hand the benefits of Out of School Time programs and will work to ensure more are funded in Ward 8.

DMV Community Talks Importance of This Year’s DNC, Offers Washingtonians Call to Action

For the world, the 2024 Democratic National Convention (DNC) was a nationwide gathering...However, for those from the DMV, the national gathering was also a moment for local leaders to go to Chicago for information and inspiration, so that they’re able to mobilize the people back home.

“The call-to-action is to actually go out to battleground states and help knock doors, to phone bank, to text, to write letters to those undecided...“We can’t sit home. There’s too much on the line"...said Bunn.
